Singapore Airlines’ (SIA) recently completed the world’s longest non-stop commercial flight, Singapore to New York and back. The 18-hour, 45-minute route is operated on SIA’s all-new Airbus A350-900ULR, configured in a two-class layout, with 67 business class seats and 94 premium economy class seats. Daily flights operate to Newark Liberty International Airport and are served by two A350-900ULR aircraft on the route. The aircraft offers customers a more comfortable travelling experience with features such as higher ceilings, larger windows, an extra wide body and lighting designed to reduce jetlag. Its carbon composite airframe also allows for improved air quality due to a more optimised cabin altitude and humidity levels. The airline industry is already in a period of great change as full service airlines introduce new or additional services to make them more competitive with low cost carriers. The emergence of ultra-long haul flights is a natural progression and could lead to more ultra-long haul routes opening up. www.singaporeair.com
